Troop 161 had the amazing opportunity to go to Enchanted Rock for a hybrid backpacking campout. Our campsite was pretty isolated compared to the other campsites in the area. Additionally, there was a lot of long grass and dirt mounds but we still managed. In the future, we plan on setting up camp in the flat grass area as it would’ve been much easier to access the trailer as well. As a Troop, we went backpacking and made meals on the trail with jet-boil stoves. Unfortunately, due to the rain, our trek up the actual rock was delayed and only a few members of the troop were able to go. We still managed to get a 5-mile hike around the Enchanted Rock loop and had a lot of fun talking with each other and learning about the new scouts in the troop. For some, it was their first campout and they did amazing! We even hosted our own campfire with hot cocoa and patrol skits which were very entertaining, though it was interrupted by a few lightning strikes near the area. We as a troop learned that we should plan our campsite a bit better while also being prepared with stronger equipment for rain and wind.
It was an amazing campout and we highly recommend going here!
