Capitol Area Council sent 89 Scouts and Scouters to the National Jamboree held at the Summit Bechtel Reserve in West Virginia.   There were scouts from all over our Council who attended.  North Shore had several Scouts and Scouters in the contingent.    Scouts had opportunities to hone either skills by patch trading, negotiating activities they wanted to do, some Merit Badges, Shooting Sports, water activities and ziplining!

Before arriving at the Summit, the Capitol Area Council Contingent spent two days in Washington DC touring.  It all started by meeting in the baggage claim area at the airport at 2:30 AM!    The group got time at the National Mall, saw the White House, the Capital, the Supreme Court, the Memorials before collapsing into bed each night.

After two days of touring, we all loaded back up and on our way to West Virginia we went.   After arriving at the Summit, we set up our home for the next 10 days-  Tents, dining flies, cooking stations, oh my!  Patrol lists, duties assigned, SPLs doing their thing!  Scouts and Scouters going all the places to get stuff done!  Some even earned volunteer awards for donating time at the National Jamboree.

And, like all scouting events – Scouts did give back!  Flood buckers were made and will be given to the people of West Virginia when the next flood happens.

And, many patches were traded – It was the highlight of many evenings.   Now, Scouts and Scouters are tucked back in their comfy beds, with tales of lore about ambient temperature showers, bears, deer and errant scouts running around seeking their next thrill!

We are not sure when the next Jamboree will be but it will be here soon! It is a great experience to go and enjoy a sampling of all the high adventure!   Next time you see a Scout or Scouter with a National Jamboree patch above right pocket, why don’t you ask them about it?
