Today I met a young man that earned his Eagle. Today I talked with a young man that earned his Eagle. Today I listened to a young man that earned his Eagle and his story was inspiring. He didn’t earn it yesterday, last week, last month, or last year. He earned his Eagle today.

Beginning with the first Eagle Scout in 1912, continuing to the first person of color to earn Eagle Scout in 1926, then to the first female Eagle Scout in 2020, and now our newest Eagle Scouts today, America has come to respect the rank of Eagle. We respect Eagles because we know that it is a hard task to accomplish, even if we don’t know what their particular task was, and we know they persevered to complete it. It is a rare achievement with less than 10% of Scouts earning Eagle and that only increases our respect for the few who did it. Now imagine that you were there when they earned it. What would you say to them?

Well, you don’t have to imagine it. Like me, you can be there when they start their life-long journey as an Eagle Scout. Today I joined 3 other Scouters on an Eagle Board of Review. Like us, you can listen to the story  of how they earned Eagle Scout first hand. You can ask them why they did it, as we did. You can hear about the life lessons that they learned along the way, just like us. You can be inspired by their Eagle journey as we were, and you can inspire them to continue their Scouting journey, to give back just a little bit more, to make Scouting just that much better for the Scouts that follow, as I hope we did.
