Scouts, Scouters, and family members joined forces on May 2 at Brushy Creek Lake Park for Trash the Trash Day 2026, part of the nationwide Scouting initiative focused on environmental stewardship and community service.
Participants from Packs 150, 2008, and 171, along with Troops 161, 799, 371, 258, and 358, worked together to clean the park and surrounding waterways, demonstrating the Scouting commitment to leaving the environment better than they found it.
The event also featured educational presentations aimed at promoting environmental awareness and safety. Haylan Teel of Leave No Trace spoke about the Scouting for Clean Waterways program and highlighted the impact pollution has on local waterways. Scout Diya V. of Troop 358 led the event’s safety briefing before volunteers began the cleanup effort.
Organizers expressed appreciation to the many sponsors who helped make the event possible, including ThunderCloud Subs, H-E-B, Waste Connections of Texas, National Park Service, Kolenda Chiropractic, Taco Shack, and the City of Cedar Park.
Brushy Creek Lake Park was one of three Capitol Area Council locations participating in this year’s Trash the Trash initiative. Leaders mark your calendars with next year’s Trash the Trash & Scouting for Clean Waterways event scheduled for May 1, 2027.
