The North Shore District lost a dear friend recently, Walter Gerard Stevens. In difficult times like these, scouts and scouters can find both solice and inspiration in our shared commitment to the principles of scouting expressed in the Scout Oath and Scout Law. Walter was ever-cheerful and I will always remember him pitching in to help and always with a smile. So, in honor and remembrance of Walter, our Scoutmaster minute this month is on the 8th point of the Scout Law… A Scout is Cheerful.

When we have to say goodbye to a friend or family member, or anyone we hold dear in our hearts, it hurts, especially when that farewell is forever. While the occasion makes us feel sad, it also gives us an opportunity to forever fix in our thoughts those fond memories of them that made them so special to us. That will bring a smile to your lips whenever you think of them. That is the essence of “A Scout is Cheerful”.
