The Push Is Working. Now Let’s Close It Out.
A few weeks ago we put out the call: Scout Week needs volunteers, school by school, night by night. You answered.
Since then, eleven schools have moved off the empty list or added the piece they were missing – real adults and real Scouts have raised their hands for nights that had nobody assigned. That is not a small thing. Every one of those is a family that will now walk into a Join Scouts Night with a friendly, uniformed face instead of an empty table.
Here is where that momentum has taken us – and exactly where we need one more push to get every single school covered before September 15-17.
This Month’s Wins – Thank You
The story of the month is Bagdad. It had nobody. Then Lauren Duncan (Pack 2008) went to work, and in a single day Bagdad went from zero to a full team: Arthur McCoy and Neil Martinez as adults, with their kids Logan and Santos joining as youth presence. That is exactly the turnaround we need to see seven more times before September.
These schools had nothing confirmed the last time we asked. They don’t anymore:
- Bagdad (Pack 2008) – Arthur McCoy and Neil Martinez (adults), Logan and Santos (Scouts). Zero to fully staffed overnight.
- Akin (Pack 233) – Wesley Flower stepped up as an adult lead, and Christian (T-91) is bringing youth presence. A full team from zero.
- Cypress (Pack 172) – Keri Burns is now the confirmed adult, and the pack has since grown that to 3-4 adults plus a strong group of Cub Scouts in uniform. The pack is lining up Troop Scout support directly, so this one is fully staffed – no ask needed here.
- Naumann (Pack 172) – same story: 3-4 adults confirmed, with Siddharth staying on as the pack’s own Scout presence alongside a strong Cub Scout turnout. Fully staffed.
- Deer Creek (Pack 1720) – Carl DeAngelo is now on point.
- Mason (Pack 170) – Erich Hauptli (T-91) and the Alderson family both signed on.
- Parkside (Pack 233) – Daniel Jimenez has it covered.
- Tarvin (Pack 233) – Nethra Tantrigoda is now the confirmed adult.
- Whitestone (Pack 170) – the Marco and Perkins families both stepped in.
- Winkley (Pack 170) – the Schumacher and Young/Scheppan families are on board.
And two schools that already had an adult picked up their first confirmed Scout, which is exactly the youth presence that makes JSN work:
- Camacho (Pack 160) – Remyngton is joining Dawnielle Allen.
- Reed (Pack 1277) – Konrad is joining Cody Fuller.
Bonus depth: Westside (Pack 2008) now has four additional Troop 358 Scouts ready as backup, and Pack 2008’s own leadership – Jeff and Lauren Duncan – are planning to personally show up across all three of their schools (Bagdad, Knowles, and Westside) with their kids Nate, Miles, and Shepherd if schedules allow. That is the kind of bench strength we want everywhere.
Pleasant Hill (Pack 171), Bagdad (Pack 2008), and Cypress and Naumann (both Pack 172) are now our gold standard – all fully staffed with adults and Scouts, ready to go.
That is real progress, built by real people saying yes. Thank you.
It’s Already Working
Meet the Teacher Night (8/10) gave us a preview of exactly what a staffed table delivers. CJ Mendes reported roughly 14 families signed up at North Elementary’s contact sheet. At Mason, Erich Hauptli’s son worked the room with pamphlets, Pack 170 stickers, and a QR code to join – no formal sign-up sheet, and at least 2 sign-ups were counted from the night. And at Hisle – the one campus with no pack leadership at all – Summer worked the table herself and 6 families signed up to hear more about Cub Scouting.
Families are showing up and asking about Scouting. The only variable left is whether we have someone there to answer them.
Where We Still Need You
19 of 29 schools now have at least one confirmed volunteer, and 4 are fully staffed. That leaves 10 schools with nobody signed up at all – these are the ones where your “yes” will have the biggest possible impact:
Zero coverage – claim one of these today: Grandview Hills (Pack 201) – Knowles (Pack 2008) – Laura Welch Bush (Pack 201) – Plain (Pack 160) – Reagan (Pack 150) – River Place (Pack 201) – River Ridge (Pack 201) – Rutledge (Pack 150) – Steiner Ranch (Pack 201)
Knowles has a promising lead – two Pack 2008 families are being asked to confirm – but nothing is locked in yet, so it stays on this list until it is.
Hisle (new unit, Pack 161) deserves a special call-out: it’s a brand-new Pack with no leadership in place yet, and right now the only coverage is one Council staffer. Six families already signed up wanting to know more at Hisle’s Meet the Teacher Night – the demand is real, we just need people to meet it. If you can help get Scouting started at Hisle, this is the highest-impact thing you could do this month.
Almost there – just need a uniformed Scout to complete the team: Cox, North, Larkspur, Whitestone, Mason, Winkley, and Deer Creek all have their adults locked in. A single Troop Scout showing up at any of these turns a good team into a great one.
Good news on Tarvin and Parkside: Troop 161 has committed to covering both (plus Akin) and is finalizing exactly which of their Scouts go where – so these two are close to locked in.
One more adult would put these over the top: Block House Creek, Giddens, Reed, Camacho, Westside, and Akin all have their first volunteer – they just need company.

- Pick a school from the lists above – your own, or one you can flex to.
- Register through the Volunteer Registration Form so we can lock in your spot and get you the materials.
Each JSN runs 6:00 to 8:00 PM on its assigned night, September 15, 16, or 17. Two hours. That is the whole ask.
The Finish Line Is Close
Eleven schools moved or gained ground since we last asked – including Bagdad going from nothing to fully staffed in a single day. Ten schools still have nobody. If the same energy that got us this far shows up one more time, every single school in the district has a team standing in the room in September – and that is the difference between a family walking into Scouting or walking past it.
