After being put on hold due to COVID, the National Jamboree, a once in a lifetime experience, is back and took place this July at the Summit Bechtel Reserve.
The North Shore district had a strong presence in the Council contingent, with multiple units having their Scouts and Leaders signed up.
The journey started with a 2-day cultural visit of Washington, D.C. with multiple sites seen, as well as powerful memorials visited, such as the Vietnam Memorial, Arlington Cemetery, and the Pentagon 9-11 Memorial, just to name a few.
We then headed to West Virginia for the main event, becoming the state’s second biggest city overnight with 18,000 participants including Scouts, Leaders, and the staff.
Days were packed with activities such as shooting, aquatics, hiking, merit badges, learning about Scouting opportunities, and thanking our military service men and women.
We also had a service project, and some special events, namely a concert with AY Young, the only American Youth Leader as defined by the United Nations, and a former Scout himself.
We spent some time learning about leadership and everything that entails, too.
At night, Scouts went out trading patches, chasing down the rare ones, and learning negotiation skills.
We all came home full of memories, excitement, stories to tell, new friendships, skills, and a renewed thirst for Scouting adventures and a sense of belonging to something big.
