Between NASA, SpaceX, Blue Origin, and so many other organizations reigniting our curiosity and desire for space exploration, Pack 170 Webelos recently began working on requirements to fulfill the “Out of This World” Nova Award. Scouts recently worked in teams to design and create their own “Mars Rover” out of recycled materials, after a group discussion of what kinds of equipment the rover would need to survive and explore on another planet.

Other activities involved reinforcing their knowledge about our solar system, various constellations, learning about the upcoming Solar Eclipse, and watching different TED talks. One TED video they found particularly interesting was about plans to possibly use 3-D printing machines to build habitats on Mars before humans arrive! Important to mention, the Webelos have also learned that, while it’s exciting to learn and think about space exploration, it’s still important to take care of the planet we live on, as it will continue to be the most inhabitable planet for humans for many years to come.
