OA Elections
Election season is upon us! All units with eligible scouts to schedule an election with our elections team. Please click on election request at https://sites.google.com/site/oatonkawanorthshore. Please specify whether the unit is meeting in person or virtually. Please adhere to the following guidelines:
Crew leaders and Scoutmasters are responsible for selecting scouts for the election. These leaders should consider both eligibility rules and scout spirit in selecting scouts for the election.
- Elections can be held in person or virtually.
- At least 50% of the active unit membership must be present (in person or online) to conduct an election
- Scouts must meet be first class or above and have completed 15 nights (5 of them consecutive) of camping in the area of the unit.
- Until district camporees are scheduled again, crews and troops are responsible for calling out the elected scouts
- Adults may be nominated at a separate time by the unit’s OA selection committee. (Eligibility rules apply). Like elections, the nomination results can be offered to the district once annually.
- Unit leaders should familiarize themselves with all guidelines available here.
Note on Selection: If a scout (adult) chooses not to be included in the election, please respect the scout’s (scouter’s) wishes. North Shore has had a large number of scouts and scouters who are elected or nominated but never attend an ordeal. That trend indicates possibly that the expectations are not understood clearly prior to an election. It’s key to communicate to potential members, that the OA is first a service organization. We welcome all new members, but expect OA members to participate in service opportunities within their units and the district and lodge. We ask unit leaders to relay that expectation prior to finalizing the election ballot.
