Gary Pape was an Armadillo District Scouter and the father of North Shore’s Alan Pape. We join the Pape family in mourning his loss.
Excerpt from obituary:
Gary was a beloved husband, father, brother, grandfather and friend. He was a Scout as a youth then joined up again with his oldest son where he has devoted 43 years to working with Boy Scout Troop 421 as Scoutmaster, Assistant Scoutmaster, Merit Badge Counselor, Summer Camp Coordinator, Committee Member and Committee Chair, and he was part of a core leadership that kept Troop 421 going during COVID. He was a constant presence at troop meetings, and he was always willing to support the scouts helping at meetings, and sharing encouragement and his knowledge with scouts and parents. He was a Brotherhood member in the Order of the Arrow. He mentored many Scouts through the Eagle Scout process. He is a recipient of a Spirit of Baden-Powell award (1988), Scouter’s Training award (1995), Norm Hummell Award of Excellence (2009), an Armadillo ACE (Always Creating Excellence) Award (2023), District Award of Merit (2025). He planned summer camps, always looking for a new adventure for the boys, and he never missed attending a summer camp in over 40 years. His commitment to Scouting and to the young men he served made a lasting impact on the Troop. He always had a smile on his face, a great sense of humor, and a positive attitude. His legacy will live on through the many lives he touched.
The Pape family has asked that, if you would like to honor Gary’s memory, to please consider making a donation to TROOP 421. A donation page has been set up here: https://buy.stripe.com/aFaeVdafl4KFfHr3tw8so03
