Cedar Park City Council Meeting

Mayor Jim Penniman-Morin and the Cedar Park City Council will issue a proclamation honoring Cedar Park’s and the North Shore District’s first female Eagle Scout, Kate Pate, at the September Cedar Park City Council meeting. Friends and family of the Papes and representatives of all North Shore District units are invited to join us at the Cedar Park City Hall 30 minutes before the meeting begins (6:30 PM).

If you haven’t already met this young lady from Troop 219, we invite you to meet her now. Kate Pape is the North Shore District’s first female Eagle Scout and we are all very proud of her, though not as proud as her family is. The Pape family has been a mainstay of Scouting in the North Shore District for several years. Kate’s father, Allan, and her uncle both earned their Eagle Scout from Troop 421 in Austin so she had great role models and great advice to guide her on her journey to Eagle.

Kate Pape

Eagle Scout - Troop 219

Kate is the North Shore District’s first female Scout to earn the rank of Eagle.

Kate’s father and her mother, Rosie, have been Scouting volunteers for about a decade, first with Cub Scouts then Scouts BSA. Her grandfather still volunteers with Troop 421 after 40 years where Allan and his brother earned their Eagle Scouts badges. The Papes were founders of Troop 219 where Kate earned Eagle Scout.

Kate started Scouting at age 14 with Crew 271. She joined Troop 219 in February 2019 when BSA opened Scouts BSA to girls. She continued Venturing with Crew 158 when Crew 271 dissolved in 2020 and now has reached the pinnacle of Scouts BSA, earning Eagle Scout on June 25th, 2022. She decided to build Pollinator Pergola for the Central Texas SPCA after much research into ways to benefit animal organizations in our area. The pergola is 10 X 10 and is essential habitat for Monarch Butterflies.

So what do you do after you reach the pinnacle of Scouting? In the fashion of a true Eagle, you soar beyond the peak, you keep giving your all, and, that is exactly what Kate is  doing. Since earning her Eagle Scout, she has continued with Troop 219 as an Assistant Scoutmaster, a very natural transition from youth leader to Adult leader.

This is a very important event for the Pape family, of course, bvut also for the North Shore District. Kate’s father, Allan, explains it well.

We are so proud to have the first female Eagle Scout in our district. Kate worked hard and showed immense dedication to earn this honor. Following the legacy of her father Allan Pape, and uncle Barry Pape.  She made a commitment to leadership and serving our community. While keeping her commitment to the Cedar Park High School Color Guard. There is a need for female leadership in our community and in the world today. It is imperative to empower girls with valuable skills and the knowledge that they can do anything that boys can do. The values of scouting is for both young women and men.
