The District Award Reception will be held on Thursday, January 25, 2024 beginning at 6:30 PM at South Star Bank, Leander. Nominations for Scouting year 2023 are open NOW! Deadline for nominations is January 11 (Roundtable & OA night).

 

EVERY unit is HIGHLY encouraged to submit nominations for recognition of their scouts, leaders, and volunteers by the North Shore District. There are 6 awards that units may submit nominations for. Read the description below then click the award or awards to open the nomination form or email to recommend someone for that award.

Northern Star Award

Every unit should recognize someone. Nominations for this award can come from anyone in the unit. The honorees are the unit leaders and volunteers who have gone above and beyond for the unit.

Silver Squirrel Award

The Silver Squirrel Award recognizes Scout leaders, units and supporters for exceptional service to young people. This award is unique to North Shore District. Recipients receive a silver squirrel pendant suspended from a grosgrain ribbon of dark blue and white, the color of the District Award of Merit.

District Award of Merit

The District Award of Merit is the highest award a district can present to scout leaders for service to youth.  The award is most often presented for service to youth for at least five years.  Districts can present a very limited number of these awards each year.

Unit Leaders of the Year

Unit Leaders of the Year are selected from nominations from district leaders or their peers. Cubmasters nominate Cubmasters, Scoutmasters nominate Scoutmasters, and so on. This award is not always presented and is reserved for those exemplify all that Scouting is while delivering exceptional service to the youth in their unit.

Scout of the Year

Scout of the Year is selected from the North Shore District at large for that outstanding Scout from each Scouting program who exemplify Scouting by living the Scout Oath and Scout Law in every facet of their lives and rendering exceptional service to Scouting and their community. There is a very high bar for these awards, so they may not be presented every year. 

To nominate a Scout, please send an email to commissioner@northshoredistrict.org. Please include a description of the exceptional service to Scouting and the community they have rendered, how they exemplify the principles of Scouting, and any other supporting information.

District Volunteer Hall of Fame

The distinguished members of the District Volunteer Hall of Fame are Scouters from the North Shore District who have contributed significantly to the success of our Scouting programs over many years. These are Scouters who are in it for the long haul and whose legacies continue to inspire volunteers across the district today.
