A Scout is courteous.

Courtesy is the gateway to the Scout Law. Each of the 12 points of the Scout Law requires an element of respect, and respect must and should be earned. But, courtesy IS respect. It is that respect due to everyone whether earned or not. It isn’t just please and thank you, that is just how it manifests. When you give that respect, that common courtesy, asking nothing in return, you show yourself worthy of their respect. That opens the door to trust, loyalty, and friendship. It inspire helpfulness, kindness, and even bravery. Although courteous is the fifth point, the Scout Law begins with courtesy. Thank you.
