Hike! Hike! Ha! Ha! G! G! Woah!

Those phrases might sound a little strange to most, but not to Venturing Crew 158.  Because this past winter from January 18-22, the crew went dog sledding at Okpik high adventure camp in Minnesota!

Waking up early everyday wasn’t easy as the weather there was really cold (the lowest was -18 degrees Fahrenheit!) but this crew persevered through it all.  Every morning they spent taking care of 24 Alaskan husky sled dogs before going out for the day. Daily dog duties included feeding the dogs, scooping up poop, and harnessing them in preparation for sledding.

After the initial set up was completed, their interpreters led them and their sleds onto Moose lake where they dog sledded for most of the day.  During their breaks they would eat food which they had stored inside their boots (it was sanitary…sort of).

On one of their evenings they went ice skating on a makeshift ice rink the interpreters had dug out from the snow on the lake and taking photos of the beautiful sunset.

Overall, they had an amazing adventure and would recommend it to anyone who is interested!
