UPDATED JANUARY 2021

Eagle Extension Information

This is a reminder of the current BSA national and CAC policies on Eagle extensions due to Covid-19. Policies have changed as of Janaury 2021.

1. BSA national keeps their Covid-19 policy details listed on their web page: https://www.scouting.org/coronavirus/covid-19-faq/  The date that the page was updated is shown at the top of the page, so you may regularly check that page for updates. Items on the page that have been modified are annotated with diamond characters.

2. Councils have the authority to approve up to a 6-month extension to Scouts working on Eagle rank, regardles if the reason for their advancement delay is COVID-19 or not. It means that a request in 2021 for a six-month extension due to COVID-19 can be granted by councils, even if the Scout has previously been granted extension(s) in 2020 due to COVID-19 (or any other reason).

Further updates will be posted when available.

New Eagle-Required Merit Badge in 2021

BSA national will roll out a new Eagle-required merit badge in January 2021 called ‘Diversity, Equality and Inclusion’.  There has been no official information on it from BSA national, but comments suggest that it will be required on May 1 for all Scouts who have any Eagle requirements to complete other than just their board of review.  An unofficial discussion on this topic is at: https://discussions.scouting.org/t/diversity-equality-inclusion-mb-requirements/206201  Additional information on the merit badge will be posted as soon as we receive updates. See also BSA’s Diversity & Inclusion statement: https://www.scouting.org/about/diversity-inclusion/

January 2021 Note: National roll-out of this merit badge has been delayed until further notice. Eagles should proceed with other badges as usual.
