Hello North Shore, here is a Commissioner Update for the North Shore District. I am happy to report that we are welcoming several additional Scouters to the North Shore Commissioner Corps, all as Unit Commissioner. They have already started their training and are now beginning to work with units to be that unit’s single best resource. Do you, or someone you know, want to know more about commissioner service? North Shore District is piloting a program for new commissioners to better prepare them for unit service. The program is a combination of onboarding, training, networking, and coaching over 90 days to provide a well-rounded introduction for commissioners and those willing to invest their time to find out more.
While we are growing the North Shore Commissioner Corps, we still need more commissioners. Here are a few positions we still need:
- Assistant District Commissioner for Scouts BSA
- Roundtable Commissioner for older youth progams (SBSA, Venturing)
- Assistant District Den Leaders (Asst. Roundtable Commissioners)
- Unit Commissioners for all Scouting programs and special needs scouting
Our incoming District Commissioner and current Assistant District Commissioner for Cub Scouting, Jennifer Fortenberry, has connected with every Cub Scout pack in the district and I want to thank the leadership of each pack for completing their North Shore Excellence Award rubric. Several troops also submitted their NSEA but we still want to hear from the rest of our North Shore troops. The details you provide us in this self-assessment helps us, commissioners, to better understand your unit and know where we can help.
Finally, a plug for Wood Badge. Our council still has a few openings for our Fall Wood Badge course over 2 weekends, October 23-25 and November 7-8, at Lost Pines Scout Reservation.
