This October and November, BSA’s premiere leadership course was held at Lost Pines by an outstanding Capitol Area Council staff. More than 70 participants and staff enjoyed two weekends of fun, fellowship, and training. Troops 158, 258, 358, and Crew 158 (collectively “the ’58s”) have a long history of promoting Wood Badge. Why encourage all your adults to attend – ASMs and committee alike? It makes your program better. Summing up the course is difficult, given all the tools you will acquire, but I most reflect on the titles of the last two sessions: “Train them, Trust them, Let them Lead” and “Leaving a Legacy”. To me these most represent what we leaders should do in Scouting for the benefit of all. Signup for the fall 2023 course will open soon.
Several leaders from the ’58s participate in Wood Badge each year. Fall 2023 included (L-R) Melissa Bjordal (participant, treasurer 258 & 358), Ryan Baldwin (troop guide, ASM 258 & 358), Brian Matt (SPL, SM 158), Brian Kennedy (participant, assistant commitee chair 258 & 358), Steven Worthy (participant, unit commissioner 258 & 358), Cary Robinson (troop guide, SM 258 & ASM 358), John Devenport (former WB course director, ASM 258 & 358)
