Scouts and Scouters from across our council proudly volunteered at the 2026 Leander & Cedar Park MLK Day March and Celebration, honoring the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. through service, unity, and civic engagement. The event brought together community members of all ages to reflect, celebrate, and march together in the spirit of equality and service.
Scouts and Scouters from Crew 158, Troops 258 and 358, Troops 16 and 91, and Pack 171 marched alongside community leaders and families, fulfilling their civic duty and honoring Dr. King’s legacy. Throughout the day, they also helped wherever they were needed—assisting event vendors and supporting city staff with setup and cleanup. It was a true honor for our Scouts to serve the community as the color guard at this meaningful celebration. Christian S. (Crew 158), Delilah P. (Troop 16), and Charles P. (Ship 1407) presented the colors, demonstrating respect, leadership, and a strong commitment to civic responsibility.
In addition, Scouters from the North Shore District hosted an informational booth that celebrated famous African American men and women who were part of Scouting. The booth sparked great conversations with attendees and helped connect Dr. King’s legacy with the long history of diversity, leadership, and service within the Scouting movement.
Thank you to all the Scouts and Scouters who generously gave their time to serve, and to the Cities of Leander and Cedar Park for the opportunity to be part of such a meaningful community event. Your partnership allows Scouting to continue making a positive difference while teaching our youth the importance of service, leadership, and respect for all.
