The Adventures of Crew KS053124-G

Fourteen months ago, six scouts, a scoutmaster and a committee member from Troop 358 set their sights on the Sea Base High Adventure. This adventure empowered them to achieve many goals as a group, as individuals and also to make memories that will last them a lifetime! They spent the months leading up to their trip in June, training and improving their water and sailing skills, getting to know each other, and investing in their trip by holding fundraisers.

Mrs. Osuna, Mrs. Orbock, Sophie M., Lydia C., Aislyn G., Danielle O., Alexis O., and Aasiyah S. earned their SCENE Conservation Award by removing invasive Water Sprite, hyacinth and lettuce at Spring Lake in San Marcos. They collected plants and native invertebrates were cleaned and returned in the springs. Other awards earned where Stand Up Paddleboarding, Snorkeling, kayaking, and Sea Base Duty to God. Read on to see how much this adventure meant to the crew members!

Mrs. Osuna, Crew Leader/Troop 358 Scoutmaster & Troop 258 ASM:  Last week Troop 358 sent a crew to Sea Base High Adventure in Florida for the Florida Keys Sailing Adventure.  We spent two nights on a liveaboard sailboat – the Sea Dancer – where we learned some basics on working sails and navigation. I got the sunrise anchor watch and really appreciated watching the day start.  We spent time just relaxing in the sun, listening to music and enjoying each other’s company.  We did some snorkeling and connected with another ship, whose crew was from Georgia.  The next 3 nights were in air conditioned glamping tents and activities included small boat sailing, kayaking, paddle boarding and lots of snorkeling. We saw a shipwreck, a historical island, sunsets, lots of fish and an artificial reef and enjoyed the fellowship of another crew we were partnered with from Plano. My favorite part was watching the crew work together and get to experience the blessings of the keys.

Mrs. Orbock, Crew Leader/Troops 258 & 358 Committee Member: Troop 358 Sea Base High Adventure did not disappoint! The trip started with a sailing voyage into the Florida Keys on the Sea Dancer. The Scouts explored ocean snorkeling, fishing, kayaking around a mangrove island, free driving, a hiking tour of Indian Key Island and a sunset Standup Paddle. Each Scout experienced a sailing lesson on a five man crew. The Scouts lead the way on each adventure with courage and fearless enthusiasm. Highly recommend taking this high adventure voyage!!

Lydia C., Troop 358 Scout: I loved Sea Base! It really opened my eyes on what I want to do for my future and made me want to move! My favorite part was definitely being on the boat for those few days and snorkeling at the pillars. I loved seeing all the aquatic wildlife. Sea Base is most certainly cool beans with awesome sauce!

Aasiyah S., Troop 358 Scout: Sea Base was an incredible experience for me. My favorite part of the week was living on the boat for a couple days. I also loved the other activities, such as snorkeling, kayaking, paddling, and small boat sailing. But being with my crew and the people I was with definitely made the whole experience a great adventure.

Aislyn G., Troop 358 Scout: Sea Base is amazing! I had an awesome time sailing, snorkeling, and hanging around base. The staff were kind and fun, and the environment was so exciting that it felt like a movie. My favorite part was the sailing, but snorkeling and the other water sports we did were close second. Everything was so beautiful, from the turquoise water to the emerald-green iguanas. I enjoyed getting to know the people in my crew better and making lasting memories.
