Troops 258 & 358 presented their semi-annual leader training for all Patrol Leaders Council (PLC) members.  The Introduction to Leadership Skills for Troops (ILST) was held during a one-night campout at Smilin V in nearby Liberty Hill.  Following an introduction to the course, the Senior Patrol Leaders (SPL) shared the concept of vision with their PLC and then shared their personal visions for their term as SPL. Our National Youth Leadership Training (NYLT) trained scouts stepped up to present the remaining course components.  While scouts were busy learning through discussions and activities, the adult leaders prepared meals to keep everyone nourished.  The evening’s campfire concluded with a solemn flag retirement.  On Sunday after packing up, Scouts helped Ranger PJ Brown by trimming trees and brush in the campsites.  Everyone enjoyed helping our local scout camp.  Thank you, Mr. Brown!

To get started in presenting your own ILST,  see the most current syllabus at https://www.scouting.org/training/youth/

ILST is best done when the unit presents the curriculum for the entire PLC.  Even non-PLC members can join in and benefit from the training. If you are virtual, BSA now offers the first two modules online.  To finish the training the Unit Leader (Scoutmaster) may obtain the third module’s materials through the above website.
