Dear North Shore District,

As the year draws to a close I cannot help but reflect on my time as your District Chair and District Commissioner, roles I have filled over the past 4 years.

It has been my great privilege to work with amazing scouters helping even more amazing scouts as they become women and men of character. I truly believe in the mission of the BSA to prepare young people to make ethical and moral choices over their lifetimes by instilling in them the values of the Scout Oath and Law.

Recently I was asked what was the highlight of my time as District Commissioner and I have to say it was getting together with everyone after over a year apart at our June Roundtable and Awards Ceremony.  2020 and 2021 were the most challenging years we have faced as a Council, as a District, as Units, and as scouts and scouters. We lost some units, we’re missing the scouts who have not continued with us, and we have learned a lot from it.  Through it all you, the readers of this newsletter have stuck it out with us or are coming back to us.

It is my prayer that soon we will have COVID and BSA’s Bankruptcy behind us and we can focus once again on the important work we are part of in raising up the next generation of leaders.

As for me, while it is true I am stepping back from my roles in the Key Three, I will still be around and will be taking on the role of Advancement Chair and Eagle Scout Advancement Coordinator.  I have big shoes to fill as Stephanie Laster has held this position and done an outstanding job keeping our Eagles on track as they finish out their Trail to Eagle.

May 2022 be a great scouting year for all of us.
