District Den Leader

The North Shore Roundtable team is looking for an Assistant Roundtable Commissioner for the Cub Scout track to serve as the “District Den Leader”. The District Den Leader will plan and conduct a den meeting that models best practices published by Scouting America for the Cub-aged Scouts and siblings of the adult leaders and parents attending each monthly roundtable. You will be an integral part of the Cub Scout Roundtable team and will have the full support of the North Shore District Commissioner Corps. This is an opportunity to learn new skills and to sharpen existing skills as well as to improve the overall Cub Scout experience across the North Shore district.

Duties and Responsibilities:

This poisition is for an Assistant Cub Scout Roundtable Commissioner focused on Den Leaders. The District Den Leader is responsible to the Cub Scout Roundtable Commissioner for planning, promoting, and delivering a safe, fun, and consistently high quality den meeting for the Cub-aged Scouts of roundtable attendees, including:

  1. Attend monthly Roundtable planning meetings.
  2. Attend the monthly Roundtable meetings.
  3. Identify and train staff (Assistant District Den Leaders, District Den Chief) as needed to deliver an effective and safe monthly program.
  4. Identify and train a replacement District Den Leader (Assistant Roundtable Commissioner) to ensure uninterrupted execution of these responsibilities should the position become vacant for any reason.

Required Skills

  • Den leader experience
  • Willingness to do this work
  • Willingness to learn the desired skills
  • Willingness to teach / mentor others
  • Cheerfulness, helpfulness, friendliness, and the other 9 points of the Scout Law.

Desired Skills

The following skills are used in fulfilling the duties and responsibilities of the Assistant Roundtable Commissioner for Den Leader Programs. If you do not already have the desired skills, but are willing to learn them, we will work with you to help you learn them. We already have all of these desired skills in the Roundtable Team so we can teach you and mentor you as you ramp up.

  • Organizational skills including scheduling, tracking, recruiting, delegation, and goal setting.
  • Effective communications.
  • Prepare and conduct the district den meeting.
  • Work as a member of the Roundtable team.
  • Post den meeting plan to the district website.
