Welcome to 2021. Let’s hope it is better than 2020. It would have to be, Right? With news of vaccines comes hope that the COVID-19 Pandemic will lighten up and we can resume some of our more normal activities.
I am particularly interested in being able to meet again in person as a District for fellowship and fun in the great out-of-doors.
As you can tell from the title of my blog this month, we are operating without a District Chair which is an interesting place to be. The decision was made that we need the right person in the job and that may take some time for us to identify and recruit her or him. Joel Holst, former District Chair and professional recruiter, is heading up our nominating committee and is working diligently to find us the right person. Ideally that person is someone with a passion for scouting and the ability to lead the district.
There is often a misconception that the District is run by professional scouters, but with the exception of our District Executive, currently a role being filled by our Field Director, Bill Kohl, all of us on the committee are volunteers. As such I beg your patience with me as I learn my new role of District Commissioner and as we muddle-through until we get a District Chair.
If ever I can support you and your unit, please don’t hesitate to reach out to me and let me know what you need. If I don’t have the answer, I’ll do my darnedest to find one for you.
Yours in Scouting.
