Prevention
• Renew your Hazardous Weather Safety Training
• Check the weather forecast before the activity
Mitigation
• Participants should seek shelter as soon as thunder is heard or seen.
• Tents are not a good shelter; a solid building or vehicles are.
• Participants need to wait 30 minutes after the last lightning strike/thunder before resuming normal activities.
• If no shelter is available; stay low and spread 100ft apart from each other.
Treatment
• In case anyone is struck by lightning, EMS must be called immediately even if no apparent burning marks are visible.
