Among other aspects, Scouting is a resource for religious organizations, schools, community and civic groups to use in their programs for young people. Scouting is an educational program based on “Duty to God” (as taught in the Twelfth Point of the Scout Law) and is designed to enhance:
- A personal value system
- Leadership skills
- Citizenship responsibilities
- Career awareness
- Personal fitness
The Basic Opportunity
Chaplains have the opportunity to be friends to the Scouts and leaders and to contribute to their spiritual welfare and growth. Chaplains encourage youth in their Scouting work and in other aspects of their total lives.
The District Chaplain
- Provides a spiritual tone for meetings and camping experiences.
- Provides spiritual counseling service when needed or requested.
- Provides opportunities for youth to grow in their relationship with God and with their fellow Scouts.
- Encourages Scouts to participate in the religious emblems program of their respective faiths.
- Provides training to unit Chaplains and Chaplain Aides.
The Troop Chaplain
- Provides a spiritual tone for troop meetings and activities.
- Gives guidance to the Chaplain Aide.
- Promotes regular participation of each member in the activities
- of the religious organization of his/her choice.
- Visits homes of Scouts in time of sickness or need.
- Gives spiritual counseling service when needed or requested.
- Encourages Boy Scouts to earn their appropriate religious emblems.
- Reports to the troop committee at each meeting.
