North Shore District Excellence Award
In May 2025, the North Shore District launched new planning tool & unit award inspired by the old Journey to Excellence system. The new award aims to help units continue to plan and strive for excellence in many important areas of scouting AND also help the entire district work together to achieve goals that are specific to our North Shore community!
Planning for an Excellent Year
As units across the North Shore District plan and navigate another amazing year of scouting, the North Shore District Committee wants to remind unit leaders of a new planning resource that was announced this past May: the new North Shore Excellence Award!
The new NSD award was modeled after the old Journey to Excellence system. The new award aims to help units plan and strive for excellence in many important areas of scouting. It also aims to help the entire district work together to achieve goals that are specific to our North Shore community!
Unit leaders are encouraged to use these new rubrics in monthly planning meetings throughout the year and to submit their scorecards next June.
An important difference for units to note is that the new North Shore Excellence Award aligns with the academic or program year, rather than the calendar year as was the case with the old Journey to Excellence award. The scorecard should reflect data from the program year, beginning June 1st and ending May 31. Therefore the new deadline to submit scorecards for unit recognition will be at the end of June each year (rather than December 31st), and the North Shore District’s Annual Awards ceremony will be held in the late summer rather than the early Spring to accommodate this change.
