On April 19, a few scouts gathered from Troop 161 at San Gabriel Park to work on the Cycling Merit Badge. San Gabriel Park was a place of beautiful scenery where many people of different ages came to enjoy playing sports or cycling around the park.
After all of the scouts have gathered and gotten ready for the bike ride we started on the 2-mile trail. The 2-mile cycling trail was built around the park and it allowed the scouts to see scenic areas and watch a small soccer game happening at the park. We then arrived at our starting point for our 8-mile ride. After refilling our water bottles and having a small water break we set out for our 8-mile cycling trail ride.
After starting our 8-mile trail ride we encountered a small rocky area on the trail. This part was rough but navigable. After around 1 mile in, we saw a random school chair. We all called it a beautiful sight and moved on to our rehydration stop. We continued on the trail and saw a wagon with plastic limbs and other junk on it. After resting in the shade, we set out and encountered a hilly area. The hilly area tested what we learnt in our first part of our cycling merit badge, which was to lean back and put more weight into the back tire to slow us down. After completing that part of the trail, we went through a water stream and got cool photos. After joking around and saying we were going to go off a ramp, which was present at where we were, we stuck to the safer path. We then biked faster as we were almost at our destination. We waited for a scout to catch up and cycled back to our starting point. We ate some snacks and said bye to each other because our parents came to pick us up. The cycling trail was the place for us to have social bonding, physical fitness and enjoy the small scenic places at San Gabriel Park in Georgetown, Texas.
