Celebrate the Season!
Parade and Float-Building Tips for North Shore District Units
Saturday December 6, 2025
It’s time to show off your Scouting spirit, creativity, and teamwork at one of the most festive community events of the year — the Leander Christmas Parade on Saturday, December 6, 2025! It’s also one of the few holiday parades in our area, making it a perfect opportunity for all North Shore District units to come together and celebrate the season as one Scouting family!
We’re calling on all North Shore District packs, troops, and crews to come together and represent our district.

Not sure where to start? We’ve got you covered with some fun float-building ideas to help your unit stand out and have a blast while doing it.
Tips on How to Build a Parade Float
1. Pick a Theme: Every great float starts with a great theme. Think about what makes your unit unique or how you can give Scouting a festive holiday twist! Let your scouts vote on the theme — they’ll love being part of the creative process.
2. Gather Supplies the Scout Way: You don’t need to spend a fortune to make a show-stopping float! Gather supplies creatively and think festive:
-
- Holiday Decor: String lights, garland, tinsel, ornaments, ribbons, bows, candy canes, wreaths, bells, snowflakes, gift boxes, and fake snow.
- Scout Gear: Reuse camping items like tents, lanterns, flags, backpacks, and troop banners.
- Building Materials: Cardboard, wood, fabric, paint, and zip ties.
- Eco-Friendly Finds: Recycled materials or repurposed decorations.
- Community Help: Ask local businesses or parents for leftover supplies or donations
3. Make It a Team Project: Turn float-building into a fun troop or pack activity! Assign roles so everyone gets involved:
-
- Poster & banner design
- Painting & decorating
- Wear Holiday accessories with your Field Uniforms
4. Float Base Ideas: What to Build On
-
- Flatbed Trailer
- Utility Trailer
- Truck Bed or Pickup Tailgate
- Car or SUV
- Hay Wagon
- For younger youth a wagon pulled by an adult
- Walking Float (No Vehicle Needed
5. Add Motion, Music, & Magic
-
- Floats that move and make noise wow the crowd!
- Add twinkling lights, waving flags, or spinning campfires (use orange tissue and a fan!).
- Play Scout songs or holiday music.
- Have scouts walk alongside, waving, handing out candy, or spreading cheer.
Let’s make this year’s parade one to remember — full of lights, laughter, and Scout spirit as one District!!
