I have been a Scouter since 1990 and I have met many Scouting leaders over that time. I can’t recall a single one that was in it for the recognition. No, there is really one common reason that we all share this Scouting journey and that is where the commissioner’s heart is. As commissioners, we share Scouting America’s mission:
To prepare young people to make ethical and moral choices over their lifetimes by instilling in them the values of the Scout Oath and Law.
But it takes more to be successful as a commissioner. The commissioner’s mindset is servant leadership, guiding units to success by serving their needs.
Put these together and you have the commissioner’s soul, to be a friend. Does this sound like you? Are you a commissioner in unit leader uniform? You can be both you know, a unit leader and a commissioner. Think about it and reach out to commissioner@northshoredistrict.org for more information. No commitment, just info.
