WALTER GERARD STEVENS – NORTH SHORE DISTRICT SCOUTER – 1939 to 2022
Walter Stevens served in the North Shore District after moving here in 2019. His generous support of scouting was a true testament of the love he had for the scouting program. Walter passed away peacefully at home in Leander, Texas at the age of 83 on November 10, 2022.
Walter’s vast scouting experience were an immediate asset to the North Shore District where he served as Dictrict Committee Member at Large and Unit Commissioner. During his 70-year tenure in the Boy Scouts of America as both a scout and a scouter, Walter earned many awards and recognition including Eagle Scout, District Award of Merit, Silver Beaver, Distinguished Commissioner Service Award, Doctorate of Commissioner Science, Award of Merit (Scouts Canada), and more.
Walter was also a member of the Order of the Arrow and he attended multiple National Jamborees. He brought all of this experience to his volunteer work here in North Shore along with his always-cheerful demeanor, his kindness, his friendly nature, and his engaging stories. Our thoughts and prayers go out to Walter’s friends and family. We miss you Walter.
