2021 University of Scouting

North Shore Rocks UoS!

I don’t know about you, but I really enjoyed the 2021 University of Scouting and I am happy to report that the North Shore District did its part to make this event a success. There were 100+ attendees and more than 50 courses offered across the 3 colleges for 2021: Cub Scouting, Scouts BSA, and STEM.

The College of Cub Scouting was led by Cub Scouting Dean Alicia Matt of the North Shore District. Alicia put together a catalog of 19 Cub Scouting topics including 3 taught by volunteers from the North Shore District:

  • Awards: Mining the Hidden Gems – Tim Pacl and Nick Rietsch
  • Homade Ceremonies: If You Build It They Will Come – Tim Pacl
  • Journey to Excellence: The New Metrics System: Nick Rietsch

The College of Scouts BSA was led none other than North Shore District’s own, Kevin Clark, former District Chair and current District Commissioner. As Scouts BSA Co-Dean, Kevin assembled a catalog of 23 courses including 5 taught by North Shore District Scouters:

  • Service Projects: Beyond Food Drives and Trash Pickup – Nathan Hayden
  • Advancement: First Class in the First Year or Two – Heather Spencer and Dr. Tim Urban
  • Youth-Led Troop: Bouncing between Chaos and Order – Heather Spencer and Dr. Tim Urban
  • Merit Badges: Counsel Your Badge Self – Russell Hunter
  • Communications Plans: Can You Hear Me Now? – Tim Pacl

The College of STEM Nova was led by another bedrock of the North Shore District, Dr. Tim Urban, our District Vice Chair for Program. With 9 STEM / Nova courses offered in this years catalog, North Shore District instructors presented 5 of them:

  • Adventures with Cub Supernova Awards – Arianna Dial
  • Implementing STEM Nova for older youth programs – Heather Spencer
  • Adventures with the Scouts BSA Harris Supernova Award – Heather Spencer
  • Yes it is Rocket Science! – Dr. Tim Urban
  • Have Fun with Cub STEM Nova – Cris Cruz
