There was a great turnout at the North Shore District awards on Thursday, June 10th 2021. A lot of you were there and many units, Scouts, and Scouters were recognized. The chili was delicious too.
It wasn’t all roses though, we had some thorns too. We want to thank those of you that responded to our survey request for your very helpful feedback. You told us that check in was a bottleneck that needs to be addressed. You echoed what we already knew… the Scouting mantra “Start on time, end on time”. Overall, everyone seemed to like the venue though the heat of the day made an indoor setting better suited. That was only an issue because COVID pushed the event into June when it is normally done in January.
Combining Roundtable with the awards seemed to work okay but just okay. I am sure we can improve on that with a little more experience but we will see what we decide for the 2021 awards. The games were enjoyed by those that participated although there was lower participation than we usually have. Our thanks to Troops 16 and 91 for sharing their Spring Camporee games with us. For the first time ever, we conducted our summer raffle using a fully electronic process from ticket assignment to ticket drawing. There were a lot of prizes and most everyone went away with something. The overall ranking for the event was 4.2 out of 5.

Scouts of the Year
Scout of the year is not always awarded. There is a high bar set as a minimum standard. 2020 was a challenging year for Scouting and North Shore District had not one, but three Scouts rise well above the bar and earn the Scout of the year award for their Scouting program.
